Wow what a ride this book is.  I was sucked in from the first page.  The main character was focused and smart but at the same time very likeable.  The plot was fleshed out but stopped short of an information overload.  Each chapter revealed more of the story within a story and the crafting of the two divergent plots to the final culmination was a masterful stoke.

This novel is action packed and brings to vivid life the working of the DA’s office.  Once I read about the author, I could understand why there was so much detail.  She knows this stuff because she’s lived it.  The books starts with the death of DA Rachel Knights close colleague Jake.  She can’t believe that he has done what he is accused of but is given a big “hands off” by the police investigating.

Determined to find out what really happened while handing her own case load plus the extra case she inherits from Jake puts Rachel’s reputation, career and even her life on the line. You need to pay attention to all the little pieces of the puzzle to be able to work out where the author is heading and this to me is a sign of a great suspense novel.  There is enough information dropped throughout the book that you can never be too sure of how it’s going to end until the end.

Only negative I can say is that I wanted to know more about some of the secondary characters however knowing that this book is the first of a two book deal I look forward to learning more about the secondary characters in the subsequent book
